Travelodge Scarborough Set for Spring Opening

29th Oct 2008

Scarborough hotels will see the new £5.6million Travelodge hotel in Scarborough, which is expected to be open for business next May, the company has revealed.

The new development, on the site of the former St Nicholas Hotel in St Nicholas Cliff, will create 30 new jobs. It will have 140 rooms, and will offer rooms from £29.

A Travelodge spokesman told the Scarborough Evening News: “We are delighted to be opening the first budget Scarborough hotel. There is huge demand for low-cost accommodation by leisure and business travellers and local residents who have family and friends visiting the area.

“Next year we will see more Brits holidaying within the UK due to the credit crunch and with Scarborough being a top seaside destination, we are ideally placed to offer holidaymakers a low-cost accommodation solution.

“By booking a £29 room, consumers will have more money to spend on having fun in Scarborough, so local businesses will certainly benefit with our opening”.

Chris Bostock, the secretary of the Scarborough and District Chamber of Trade and Commerce, welcomed the move.

He told the Evening News: “It’s certainly better than a derelict building. On the whole this is a positive thing for the town. It gives people another choice and should bring a new type of visitor to the town.”

It looks like being a busy few months for Travelodge, who are set to open 22 new hotels, totalling 1,949 rooms, in a £125 million expansion between now and Christmas, creating around 450 new jobs.
