SCARBOROUGH WELCOMES TOUR OF BRITAIN AS UK’S BIGGEST CYCLE RACE COMES TO YORKSHIRE

Guests staying at The Clifton Hotel in Scarborough on Thursday 11th September this year will have front row seats for this years biggest cycling event, as the Tour of Britain Cycle Race includes a sprint section along Marine Drive – right below The Clifton Hotel.

Yorkshire and Humber will host a stage of the Tour of Britain cycle race for the fifth consecutive year. The Yorkshire leg, to be held on the 11 September, has a brand new route that takes in some of the best urban and rural landscapes in the region.

The race has become a popular fixture in the region’s sporting calendar, bringing visitors to the region and providing an exciting day out for young and old.

Sixteen teams of six cyclists – including some of the world’s top pro-cyclists – will race through the streets of Scarborough, along a route which will see them cycle into the town on the A165 from Filey before dropping down on to Foreshore Road prior to the sprint section of the leg along Marine Drive – which runs along Scarborough’s North Bay, right in front of The Clifton Hotel.

The finale of this stage is narrow, twisty and punctuated by short steep climbs and descents in the surroundings of nearby Dalby Forest, promising to be one of the most exciting sections of the race.
