Mayor’s Emerald Ball at The Royal Hotel

28th Jan 2010

Tickets priced at £35.00 are now on sale for the Mayor’s annual gala dinner, which this year will take the form of an Emerald Ball. The prestigious event is being held at our Royal Hotel in Scarborough on Friday 19 March 2010.

The event, which is one of the highlights of the area’s social calendar, will be hosted by the Mayor and the Mayoress of the Borough of Scarborough, Cllr Bill Chatt and Mrs Michelle Chatt in association with the Rotary Club of Scarborough Cavaliers.

The evening’s entertainment will include an excellent three course dinner with the menu as follows:

STARTERS – avocado, watercress and raspberries tossed in balsamic vinaigrette
MAIN – chicken breast stuffed with tomato and basil sauce served with roasted new potatoes drizzled in olive oil and sea salt, served with a panache of vegetables
DESSERT – bread and butter pudding with crème fraiche

The meal will be followed by tea/coffee and after dinner chocolates. The vegetarian option chosen is asparagus and brie strudel served with roast pepper dressing.

There will also be a disco, provided by Phil Laycock so people can dance the night away, along with a raffle and auction where guests can bid for exciting prizes. This year, in-keeping with the emerald ball theme Bond Jewellers of Huntriss Row has very generously donated an emerald necklace and earring set as the main auction prize.

All proceeds made from the night’s festivities will go to the Mayoress’ Community Fund, which benefits local groups and organisations throughout the borough, including Filey, Scarborough and Whitby.

The Mayor, Cllr Bill Chatt said:

“Myself and Michelle are really looking forward to hosting this year’s event. We have been helping to plan the dinner for the last few months and it’s set to be a ball! It was Michelle’s idea to have an emerald theme as it will be held so close to St Patrick’s Day and we thought it would make it that extra little bit special for those attending. We would like to thank Bond Jewellers who have kindly donated the main prize – a beautiful emerald necklace and earring set. All the monies raised by purchase of the tickets along with the raffle and auction will go to local good causes via the Mayoress’ Community Fund. It’s a great way for the whole community to pull together so get your tickets now!”

One of the other auction prizes on offer is a ‘Driver’s Experience’ on the North Bay Railway, kindly donated by David and Lesley Humphreys who always help to support this event every year.

Money raised from last year’s ball, hosted by Cllr Mrs Eileen Vickers, went towards the total amount raised during her civic year and ultimately saw over 30 local organisations being awarded donations from the Mayoress’ Community Fund.
