Scarborough Spa Complex is located near the Royal Hotel, Scarborough, with picturesque South Bay and is one of the most prestigious venues for conferences, exhibitions, entertainment and events on the Yorkshire Coast. Owned and managed by Scarborough Borough Council, the Spa Complex aims to provide the event organiser and leisure visitor with some of the best facilities on the Yorkshire Coast.

The Stephen Joseph Theatre was founded in Scarborough by theatrical pioneer Stephen Joseph.

Stephen, the son of actress Hermione Gingold and publisher Michael Joseph, had seen theatre in the round in America and determined to bring it back to Britain. A series of events brought him to the seaside town of Scarborough on the North-East coast where in 1955 he established a tiny theatre in the round on the first floor of the Public Library.

The theatre flourished and in 1976 moved to a supposedly temporary home on the ground floor of the former Scarborough Boys’ High School at an initial conversion cost of £40,000.

The Futurist Theatre, located on Scarborough’s South Bay, is the home of great entertainment. The site of the Futurist has been used for entertainment from as far back as 1903.

The theatre provides varied entertainment for both locals and visitors, from major stars for one-off concerts to full staged weekly musicals, children’s shows, ballet, one-off concerts, and of course the traditional summer shows.

When the Futurist is not presenting live entertainment it reverts to its role as a cinema, showing the latest blockbusters. The Futurist also offers conference facilities, with seating for 2148 people.
